Austria’s motorway vignette is entering a historic transition. The year 2026 will mark the final appearance of the classic adhesive vignette—this time in a striking fiery red—before the system moves entirely to digital tolling. Alongside the symbolic farewell, motorists will also face price adjustments across all vignette categories.
Last Adhesive Vignette Before Full Digital Switch
For drivers, 2026 brings several notable changes. Most importantly, it is the final year in which a physical sticker vignette will be available. The 2026 edition, released at the end of November 2025, can be purchased at roughly 6,000 sales points in Austria and abroad. From 2027 onward, only the digital vignette—linked directly to a vehicle’s licence plate—will remain.
All vignette types will see updated pricing in 2026, affecting the 10‑day, 2‑month, and annual options, both in physical and digital form.
Digital-Only From 2027
The 2026 annual vignette remains valid across the usual extended period, from 1 December 2025 until 31 January 2027. After that, the adhesive sticker will disappear entirely from Austria’s roads.
The digital vignette is expected to simplify life for many drivers, especially those using interchangeable licence plates, as no physical replacement will be required. It can be purchased through ASFINAG, ARBÖ, and the government platform oesterreich.gv.at..
Price Adjustments Reflect Rising Infrastructure Costs
Vignette prices have been gradually adjusted in recent years to reflect increasing expenses for the operation, maintenance, and expansion of Austria’s motorway and expressway network. The new annual vignette for passenger cars is priced at 106.80 euros. For those still opting for the adhesive version in 2026, it must be affixed to the vehicle by 31 January to ensure uninterrupted access to all motorways and expressways in the coming year.
